Director's Note

A Note From The DIRECTOR,

Justin Patrick Meyer

Tackling a musical like Beauty And The Beast is no small feat.  Our biggest challenge came with tackling the enormous scale of the traditional production.  Another challenge we set for ourselves was to design the show in a way that was both familiar to audiences who love the Disney original, but also make the designs unique to The Nocturne Theatre aesthetic.  Lofty goals, but we know our incredibly talented team was more than capable of achieving it!

Beauty And The Beast will have our biggest cast seen on stage.  It is our biggest dance heavy show.  We brought in 3 choreographers to create the exciting dance numbers you are about to see.  A special thank you to Ernie Peiffer, Michalis Schinas and Melissa Meyer for your amazing creativity and incredible vision.

When picking this show for the season, we also knew that this would be the perfect canvas to showcase our brilliant creature/costume designer, Tanya Cyr.  This is without a doubt her most over-the-top and insanely detailed creation for The Nocturne Theatre’s musical season to date.  Familiar, yet fiercely original, Tanya and her team of costume designers will take your breath away with their creations.  A special thank you to Gavin Dietz, our Wardrobe Lead, for his endless hours and outstanding skill on these brilliant costumes.

I want to thank Nolan Monsibay, Jay Michael Roberts, Eric Marsh, Seth Logan, Micah Delhauer and Matt Merline for taking on such a monumental task with such a small window of time to conquer it.  I couldn’t be happier with the look and sound of this production.  You have been a joy to work alongside.  Here’s to many more!

I am lucky to have the chance to work alongside my wife, Melissa Meyer, whose level of genius is unparalleled.  I always say that she is the engine on the bus, the steering wheel, the frame and I…am the yellow.  Without her, nothing in my world happens.  All my love to her.  Enjoy her surprise cameo!

Finally, to my amazing Cast.  You are the true magic of Beauty and the Beast! It has been an honor and privilege to direct you..and from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
